One would think that the Fashion Industry has been female nominated since the day Coco Chanel perfected the little black dress, but sadly, that's not the case. To this day, many big named designers such as Christian Siriano, Michael Kohrs, and Marc Jacobs are all males. While their designs are always stunning, it's nice to have clothes designed by women for women. Of course, there has been great success in the Fashion Industry as a female which is why Find Your ID NYC produced an event to celebrate that.
Once a month Find Your ID NYC produces PYNK NYC, a women's empowerment event that celebrates female talent. Each event has a different theme and showcases artists such as dancers, singers, and poets. Of course, with February being the start of Fashion Month, why not focus the event on up and coming female designers? PYNK NYC became rebranded as PYNK NYFW. This PYNK promised to be the most glamourous one yet. When guests arrived, they walked a pink carpet, and had their photo taken by a photo wall, so everyone would come in feeling like a total celebrity.
The event started with live performance from poets, singers, dancers, and even a fashion designer turned comedian. After that, there was a panel discussing female success in the Fashion Industry. The panel featured a designer, an owner of a beauty brand, a fashion writer, and a model. I wish that I could have listened in, but I had a job to do.
During this event, I was the head of back of house, so once again, I was seeing that the backstage was running smoothly. As I stated in a previous blog, this meant making sure all models made it to hair and makeup and were being fitted in their looks by designers. Soon, all the models were ready, and it was time to start the Fashion Shows.
Saiko New York
I was really excited for this particular designer to be a part of our show because she has modeled for FYID NYC for a while now. I even got to personally call her and invite her to take part of our event. She was ecstatic to say the least. Mocha is the designer behind Saiko New York, a dope streetwear line. Her pieces were urban yet chic, and definitely had a sexy twist on streetwear. I loved watching this show from backstage because the models got to be a little more playful than in a typical fashion show. The overall vibe was flirty and fun, and of course, the models looked amazing. It was a great start to the Fashion Shows.
Ivory Styles
Our next designer was Ivory Styles, who presented a stunning collection of evening wear, again with a sexy twist (as seen in the two-piece set pictured above). This line was flirty and fabulous and allowed for the models to continue being flirty and playful on the runway. Being #extra as I am, I definitely wanted about half the pieces from this collection. I mean they were flirty and sparkly, and sure to wow any crowd.
Caterine Sanchez Collections
The last collection presented in our event was designed by a woman after my own heart because she has a passion for both dance and fashion. The Bachata dancer and designer showcased her line of ready to wear clothing, Caterine Sanchez Collections. Her collection showcased fun, girly dresses and clothing with a flirty attitude. The models were able to still have some fun with their walk and continue to show their personality on the runway. There was one pink dress (not pictured, sorry!) that I immediately wanted to go home and buy (but didn't sadly) because it looked like it came straight out of a classic Hollywood film. I could imagine Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn totally slaying it.
The night ended with a few more live performances, even one with Caterine's dance group, Bestia NYC. And with the end of this event, came the end to the NYFW F/W '20 season. I was proud at all I had accomplished, and I can't wait for future seasons to come. So, when I was time to leave, I gave a celebratory strut (a dancer strut, not a model one) down the pink carpet, and walked out of Fashion Week feeling more accomplished than ever.
XOXO,
Kristin
