In case you didn't know, Gen Z has decided to cancel the side part. The claim being the middle part looks better on everyone. Whereas millennials are fighting back and refusing to cancel their signature look. Now, I'm a younger millennial who is known to rock a middle part, but I also love a cute side part style! I'm also a firm believer that you can rock any part you want as long as you have the confidence. Truthfully, I decide on my hairstyle based on the outfit I'm wearing, so I happily change it up frequently. I've decided to share four, chic side part styles that is proof that this look isn't cancelled.
High Ponytail
Recently, this chic AF high ponytail has become a signature look of mine. By adding a pearl clip, it becomes instantly glamourous and a great way to dress up any outfit. I love to wear it with a simple top and jeans with a pair of cute booties or heels. To achieve this look, I started by parting my hair from left to right and holding the front pieces out of the way using a blow dry clip. From there, I pulled the rest of my hair back into a high ponytail. Keeping the part I set, I took the front pieces and slicked them down by pulling them into a low ponytail at the base of my neck, I used bobby pins to pin the low pony up and hide to pieces behind the high one, and, of course, I finished the look off with a cute pearl clip!
Low Ponytail
Some days just call for a simple low ponytail. It's an easy style to pull off and I've always thought it looks better with a side part. You start by parting your hair to the side of your choice. Then brush the hair back into a low ponytail at the base of the neck. To ensure I don't look like a founding father (it's easy to do with this style), I keep the ponytail loose and make sure it has volume. Because it's such a simple look, I usually like to wear it with a more glam makeup look and a sleek jumpsuit. It's also a cute look to show off any hoop or dangly earrings!
Side Sweep
In the 2010's the side sweep was a go-to glam style, but sadly it's not so common anymore. I still like to wear this look when I'm dressing up with an outfit that I'm wanting to show off the back, but still wear my hair down. I started, of course, by parting my hair left to right. Then I twisted my hair on the eft side and pinned it back to sweep all my hair to the right. The pins were rose gold with rhinestones and pearls to add a bit more sparkle to the look, Anytime I were this style I instantly feel red-carpet ready.
Simply Worn Down
When in doubt, you can always just wear your hair down. Often times, I'll switch my hair to a side part when a middle part is looking a little flat. Switching your part is a great way to add volume and wearing it down with just a simple curl is a great low-maintenance way to look expensive. For this look, I simply parted my hair to the side of choice and curled it using the wand to achieve looser curls. It can be surprising how much a simple style can make you feel like a total ten!
So, to all my side part loving millennials, remember trends come and go. If you don't feel confident in a middle part, just don't give into the trend. It's more important to wear what makes you feel your best! I'm going to continue to be my #extra self, and choose my part based on my outfits.
XOXO,
Kristin
