The Anti-Valentine's Day Outfit

"To hopeful single women everywhere" - Carrie Bradshaw

Appropriate that this outfit is from Nasty Gal.

Before I even get into to this, you should know that this isn't going to be some kind of rant about how Valentine's Day is a dumb holiday created by greeting card companies (it is, but I digress), but more so a celebration of being your single, fabulous self! I do feel like there is a stigma that if you're single on Valentine's Day you should be bitter and upset all day. Personally, I don't live my live like that, so I figured why not dress up?

Just like Carrie Bradshaw when she published her first book, this post is for all the single girls out there. It's advice on how to dress-up and feel your absolute fiercest on what can be a rough day for us without a plus one. I've created an outfit exactly for this purpose and have all the steps listed below.

Outfit so "nice" I had to post it twice!

  1. Find your fiercest all-black outfit. For me, it was this two piece-set from Nasty Gal, but it can be anything you want! A sleek LBD, a sassy jumpsuit. The options are truly limitless. Just put on whatever makes you feel like a perfect 10!

  2. Accessorize with combat boots (heeled ones if you have them!) Nothing makes you look like more of a baddie then a pair of combat boots. Just like Marilyn Monroe said you put a pair of these on and you can conquer the world!

  3. Straighten your hair and rock that part that you never thought you could! First of all, curls are known to be more of a romantic style and that's the last thing we're trying to channel with this look. Straight hair is sleek, chic, and shows everyone you're not here to play. Second, for the longest time, I thought I couldn't rock a middle part, but after trying it, I discovered I was wrong. So, wear that part you never thought looked good on you! Trust me, it probably does, as long as you wear it with confidence.

  4. Add a subtle smoky eye and some false eye lashes. You know how most men say they prefer no makeup or natural looks. Well, do the opposite. Show off that smoky eye technique you learned from your binge of YouTube makeup tutorials (or any makeup technique you want to show off), and wear your longest, most dramatic false lashes.

  5. Finish off the look with some red lipstick. I mean, it's still Valentine's Day after all.

So, there you have it. The perfect Anti-Valentine's Outfit to celebrate your amazing single self. Now if you need me for the rest of this made-up, annoying holiday, I'll be watching NYFW from the comfort of my home (still in all black of course!) because that's a holiday that I will always celebrate.

XOXO,

Kristin
