Sustainable Fashion... But Make It Affordable!

Cause sustainable doesn't have to mean expensive!

We love an earthy eco-friendly 'fit!

I have some good news. It's officially trendy to wear sustainable clothing and actually care about our environment. However, finding eco-friendly clothing at a reasonable price point can be difficult. Many sustainable brands such as Reformation cost and arm an a leg for one dress. This, of course, makes sense because the cost of creating a sustainable garment has proven to be more than creating a piece of clothing from scratch. This is not exactly fair for those of us who want to reduce our carbon footprint but can't exactly afford a $300 dress. This is why I googled my heart out to find some sustainable options that are actually affordable.

Nasty Gal

I'm seriously obsessed with this outfit!

Nasty Gal recently announced that they are returning to their vintage roots with their new Sustainable Shop. These pieces include both redone vintage pieces and organic, sustainable denim. The great thing about Nasty Gal is that there is almost always a sale (and a good one at that!), so you can often get these pieces at half the price.

Re_Styled by Missguided

This trendy British clothing brand recently launched a sustainable collection known as Re_Styled. All the pieces are made from recycled fibers and are all classic silhouettes. It's a great way to buy basic without worrying about that environmental impact and the price tag. Missguided also has frequent sales, so you can shop these recycled pieces for even less almost always!

Fabletics

So, this brand is not fully sustainable yet. However, more and more eco-conscious pieces come out with each new collection. While Fabletics has been known as an affordable way to shop athleisure, you can know do so with less guilt. When shopping their site be sure to type eco-conscious in the search bar for these eco-friendly options.

Made Trade

Made Trade is a carefully curated site of ethical and sustainable clothing and accessories from brands across the United States. While the site has some more expensive pieces, there are plenty of options under $100. They had both basic and fashion forward pieces, so there was truly something for everyone.

Now these are just a few options that I've found. Many other sustainable sites were basic pieces such a t-shirts and tanks. However, just based on my little bit of research, I believe more and more brands are going to use more sustainable practices when it comes to the creation of their garments. Even major retailers like Revolve and ASOS give their customers the option to shop sustainable with tabs on the top of their websites.

When in doubt, thrifting and vintage shopping is always a great option, so I suggest searching local thrift stores for unique and often high-end pieces. Many thrift stores will list even designer items at a very affordable price point. I just suggest giving yourself time to really search the store. Online thrift stores such as Thread Up and Poshmark have also proven to be great options. If you're lucky you might even find a Reformation dress or two on one of those sites!

Remember, when we feel good, we look even better. I think the best way to feel good is knowing you bought your outfit in a way that helps the world instead of hurting it. We can truly make a change one pair of recycled jeans at a time!

XOXO,

Kristin
