Sitting Front Row (Digitally) for PFW

One day I'll be sitting by the Eiffel Tower watching the YSL show in person, but for now, I have my laptop and the comfort of my couch.

I think this outfit basically screams Paris Fashion Week!

Paris Fashion Week is the grand finale of Fashion Week for good reason. This beautiful city is home to truly the most iconic Fashion houses in the world. Designers and show producers work together to craft the most exquisite fashion shows, and it is a week I can’t wait to watch in person one day. There is so much to discuss, but, like I always do, I narrowed it down to just a few of my favorites.

Saint Laurent

To put it simply the Saint Laurent show was so chic! With the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the background and models wearing elegant pieces strutting down the runway, this YSL Fall/Winter ‘22 Ready-to-Wear collection was exactly what I think Paris Fashion Week is supposed to be. It captured glamour in a way that was subtle yet exciting. There were many stunning oversized blazers, long black dresses, and luxurious faux fur coats. What this collection did more than anything was capture that French girl elegance that we desire. I personally want every piece including all the sparkling heels that complemented each of these looks.

Valentino

In my opinion, any collection that a new shade of pink was created exclusively for is a must-see! That is exactly what designer Pierpaolo Piccioli did for his F/W '22 Ready-to-Wear collection. According to Vogue Runway, this monotone moment was to allow the eye to really differentiate the silhouettes and details of each individual piece. The designer also wanted the audience to see pink as more than a color that is considered to be girly or punk. What I found so interesting is that each piece is so different from the one before, and there is truly an outfit for everyone. As someone who has always loved pink, I was drawn to many of these pieces, but I have to say the stunning, sparkling pink coat was my absolute favorite!

Givenchy

Normally I find the Givenchy show to be one that I don't care to discuss (it's great clothes, just not my style), but with any nod to former muse Audrey Hepburn, I know it's a show to watch. The inspiration for the brand's F/W '22 RTW collection was actually quite simple, creative director, Matthew M Williams, wanted to design clothes that people would actually wear. The mostly black and dark green collection was largely streetwear focused, but with some more glamorous pieces added in as well. The latter was a nod to Hubert de Givenchy's designs for Audrey Hepburn which is why many of the dresses had backs with stunning strappy details, and pearls were featured throughout the collection. I obviously loved the black sequin dress and will want any piece that helps me to channel my inner Audrey.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga held one of the most culturally relevant shows of the whole week. During this show, models were inside of what was supposed to be like a snow globe. They were enclosed and separated from the audience. In the globe they were experiencing snow and harsh winds. Though this started as a statement on climate change it transformed into a statement about Ukrainian refuges. The current war really hit home to former refuge and creative director, Demna Gvasalia. Guests found Ukrainian flag t-shirts in their seats as they arrived, and Gvasalia started the show with a message in support of the refuges. The snow globe now represented the harsh conditions these refuges now have to go through to survive. It was truly and beautiful show and took the focus off of fashion (though the clothes sere stunning) and onto what is more important at this time.

Off-White

After creative director, Virgil Abloh’s recent passing, the Off-White collection was probably one of the most anticipated for the season. Abloh truly left a legacy and it was interesting to see how the brand planned to honor it and move forward. This show was meant to be a celebration of his life. Not only did it feature his RTW designs, but it also launched his couture collection. Both of which were designed by Abloh, but completed by his team. As expected, the designs were all unique, innovative, and honored his legacy. Personally, I cannot wait to see who is dating enough to wear these beautiful couture looks on the red carpet, and where the brand will go from here!

Once again, I found Paris Fashion Week to be absolutely amazing. So many designers pushed their creativity to create some of the most beautiful F/W collections that I’ve ever seen. Just like Milan, I appreciate how much access there was to every show. After watching, I felt even more inspired to chase after my dreams. Who knows? Maybe in a few seasons I will be watching that YSL show from right beside the Eiffel Tower!

To experience Paris Fashion Week for yourself;

XOXO,

Kristin
