Making Jeans and a Nice Top #Extra

Updated: May 14, 2021

Please pretend you did not see this on another blog post. Thanks!

Now that the world is finally reopening it's time for women everywhere to break out our most basic, standard outfit... jeans and a nice top. Now just because this outfit is basic doesn't mean it has to be boring. After all, after being locked inside for a year it's time to dress up! So, here I offer a few ways to take your most simple outfit combination and make it #extra!

Choosing the Denim

I'm going to start with the jeans. While you may think that the choice in jean doesn't matter too much, I'm here to remind you that the possibilities are endless. (Let's ignore the fact that I only wore one pair for my photos for this post. I personally, prefer distressed, straight leg jean because they make your legs look longer and slimmer. (Let's also ignore the fact that the jeans I wore are baggy. However, denim, especially vintage denim, is having a serious moment, so there are so many ways to play around with this look. Below, I've linked a few pairs that I'll probably be adding to cart soon!

Slim, Straight, and Stunning!

Light washed, straight-leg jeans could truly go with anything in my opinion allowing your top to be the focus of the look!

Baggy and Chic

I love how chic baggy jeans can look especially when paired with a heel. I prefer mine rolled and distressed and think they're the perfect way to keep and cute blouse casual, but still feel fashionable!

Black and Sleek

When in doubt, black jeans go with just about every thing, and have a sleeker, less casual than blue denim. They're perfect to pair with dressier tops and colorful blazers.

Now, I only listed neutral pairs because they're easier to pair with every type of top, but there is a lot of colorful and patterned denim that would also make for great outfits. Truth be told, I've had my eye on a wide leg leopard pair for a while now!

Corsets

In case you couldn't tell,,, I love this top!

Now I'm not huge on following trends because, to put it simply trends, are not fashion. However, the corset trend is one I can get behind! Corsets are both chic and flirty, and a playful way to dress up any pair of jeans. You truly cannot feel like anything less than a ten out of ten with one on!

Red and Romantic

This red corset is sure to turn heads, and the mesh detailing makes it even flirtier. It's the perfect top to feel confident and stunning on a date whether it's your first or your hundredth.

Fit for a Princess

Corsets are the perfect way to channel your inner princess, but still look mature. I love this blue off the shoulder one because it has Cinderella vibes written all over it!

Made for your Next G.N.O

This corset is pink, flirty, and fun. It looks like it was made to have a cosmopolitan in hand. I can totally imagine myself wearing it on my first post-pandemic girl's night! P.S- If you don't love pink, it also comes in black.

Corsets and bustiers are truly having a moment, meaning there are so many options! I think I already have about ten hanging in my closet, and I'm sure that number will keep increasing.

Crop Tops

Chic ones only please!

I truly can't remember a time where crop tops were out of style because they're always a great option. I prefer to opt for dressier ones like the wrap, puff sleeve one I'm wearing in the photo. I love to pair them with high-waisted jeans, and heels of course!

Floral and Flirty

I love all the details on this crop top. The puff sleeves, cutout, and floral print make for a top that's both girly and flirty. I would love to wear it while on a shopping spree or even a beach brunch!

Looking Expensive

I love the way that both a high neckline and satin can instantly make your whole outfit look more expensive. I basically can only picture this top with dark-wash jeans, heels, and champagne in hand.

Glitz and Glam

I love this top because of how over-the-top it is. The puff sleeves and glitter detailing give it a glamourous feel without crossing that line of being simply too much.

I truly don't think crop tops will ever go out of style, but if you're really looking to dress up your jeans, I think it's important to look for high-fashion details versus what's trending.

Scarf Tops

Love that this DIY trend is having a moment!

Speaking of trending, there is shockingly another trend that I am obsessed with at the moment, and that is scarf tops. I love how fun it is to DIY a scarf into an a fashionable top, and any of these look amazing with jeans and block heels.

Red Hot

I love turning scarfs into a halter, and the fact that this one is red makes it even hotter. You would seriously be the talk of the town pairing this with high waisted mom jeans, and square-toed heels.

Black Bandanna

This bandanna tied, scarf top, I could imagine with gold heels, vintage jeans, and a floppy hat. It's the perfect look to go shopping in Brooklynn or go to a more casual brunch with your girls!

Less Vintage, More Girly

I found these scarfs when I first was looking for ones to turn into a top. This soft, floral is great with using a necklace as a part of the top as well. (Like I did in my photo above.) This would be paired well with a straight leg jean, and pale pink heels for the perfect Spring look!

What I love most about this trend is how you can look so expensive, but barely break the bank. Thrift shops have amazing vintage scarfs, and Amazon carries many that you can be for ten dollars.

Open-Back Tops

Let's hear it for the back of the top!

You know what they say, “business in the front, party in the back.” What I love about open-back tops is they’re typically sleek and classic looking from the front, but can totally cause heads to turn as you strut away! Of course, I live to pair mine with distressed jeans and statement making heels!

It’s All in the Details

I love all the details this top has. The buttons, the rouching, the satin material, and the tie at the bottom allow you to look exactly as stunning from the front and the back! Open-Back Top: https://www.missguidedus.com/blue-satin-open-back-blouse-10224965

Stylish but Simple

I know this is shocking coming from me, but not every single top has to be over the top. This is a more simple open back which can allow your jeans to be the focus of the look. I would probably pair this with those leopard jeans I’ve been eyeballing!

A Girly Twist

Confession: I already have this top in a beautiful chocolate brown, but had I known pink was an option it totally would have been my first choice! I could see myself strutting through the streets on NYC knowing everyone is loving the chic twist detailing abd the Barbie pink color of the top! An open-back top is sure to turn heads no matter where you are or what jeans you choose to pair with them! It’s a fun and flirty way to leave everyone wanting more! Especially, as you walk away!

Off-the-Shoulder Tops

Cause who doesn't love a sassy off-the-shoulder moment?

There is nothing sassier than showing off your shoulders. It’s flirty and fabulous and can truly elevate any look! I think off-the-shoulder tops are truly a staple and the most perfect way to look #extra without even trying!

Sweet and Sassy Polka Dots

This polka dot, off-the-shoulder top is one of the cutest tops I’ve ever seen. I would complete my look with black jeans and a bold red heel to add a fun splash of color! Off-the-Shoulder Top: https://www.revolve.com/mobile/camila-coelho-sidney-crop-top/dp/COEL-WS15/?d=Womens&dvn=true

An Asymmetrical Moment

This bodysuit is such a staple in my wardrobe that I own it in black and pink! I look how the asymmetrical shoulders are a fun take on the off-the-shoulder trend. I tend to pair mine with my baggy jeans, but truly think it would look amazing with anything! Seriously a Need.

Technically speaking, my wardrobe doesn’t need any new items. Well, except for maybe this top. This chic off-the-shoulder top can easily transition from day to night with just a switch from casual jeans to black jeans. Truly seems essential to me! When in doubt, an off the shoulder top is truly the perfect pairing for any pair of jeans. It’s the perfect way to look fashion-forward and flirty! Just don’t forget your heels!

The biggest takeaway from this post is that jeans and a nice top can be more than what it sounds like. It’s something you can truly look amazing in as long as you’re choosing pieces that make you feel your beat!

XOXO,

Kristin
