LFW... But Make It Virtual (Part 2)

This virtual front row look includes a blazer dress and a sleek low bun.

We're continuing our virtual Fashion Month with more of the Fall/ Winter Fashion that our hearts desire, but now we've moved across the pond to London, of course!

London Fashion Week, just like New York, had many restrictions due to the pandemic. Most designers opted for video presentations. Some were simple and just showed off the collections, while other made you feel like you were sitting front row at a runway show, and some even gave you a behind the scenes look at the entire process. Regardless, of how the designers chose to present, I loved what they were able to create, and, yes, I have chosen to write about my favorites below.

Paul Costelloe

Hi, I am obsessed with these yellow coats!

When it comes to my personal sense of style, I like to look chic and classic. This is exactly what Paul Costelloe's Autumn/ Winter '21 collection embodied, and one of the many reasons I am obsessed with it! The Irish designer's presentation opened with two models running fabulously in heels and yellow coats to the show venue. From there, it showcased everything that makes a runway show so magical; Costelloe sketching his collection, models getting their hair and makeup done, taking photos backstage, and, of course, the glamourous walks down the runway. According to an article found at ourculture, the collection embodied 60's and 70's Parisian fashion to pay homage to Costelloe's early days as a designer. I found this to be true with mix of structed, elegant silhouettes, plaid patterns, and an overall chic and timeless feel. My personal favorites were the yellow plaid pieces, as they reminded me of my queen Cher Horwitz, but in a more elegant way.

Temperley London

We love a cool, rocker girl moment.

If there is one thing that Temperley London does right it's nailing the look of the sophisticated, posh girl, but this time they did that with a rocker twist. The presentation is a video of the photoshoot for this collection's lookbook that shows off Temperley' s designs in great detail. While there were still elements of the brand's beautifully tailored pieces, there were also many pieces with a more Boho vibe. It reminded me of the Beatles in their more "psychedelic" days, and I can imagine women wearing these pieces to Coachella, or, if you happen to live over the pond, Glastonbury (you know, once we're allowed to go to those again). Overall, it had a carefree, cool girl vibes, and I was one hundred percent here for it.

Daniel W. Fletcher

I need this skirt in my life please!

I have been waiting patiently for the day that Daniel W. Fletcher would drop a women's Ready-to-Wear collection since the finale of Next in Fashion. Fletcher was one of my favorite designers on the show due to his quirky take on well-tailored, classic pieces. The day finally came, and the collection did not disappoint! His presentation takes you on a behind the scenes look of the shoot for this collection, complete with a fun blooper real, which, if you watched him on the reality show, you know it's totally fitting for this designer. The pieces themselves have a heavy 90's influence coming from the Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell, and even Princess Diana. Like I said, I have been waiting patiently for this day, and hope there is at least one piece of this collection that I can actually afford, as I am obsessed.

ERDEM

Swan Lake, but make it fashion.

Historically speaking, ballet has had a heavy influence on fashion. From tulle skirts to ballet flats there are endless ways the art form has inspired fashion. As someone who is a both a dancer and a self-proclaimed fashionista, I love when a designer draws inspiration from the ballet. For Erdem Moralioglu, the brand's head designer, his inspiration actually grew from the several contrasts you'll find in a ballet dancer. According to Vogue Runway, the main contrast was between rehearsal and performance. In a rehearsal the dancewear is more laid back while in a performance the costumes exhibit absolute glamour, but both have a classical elegance to them. This is seen in many pieces of the collection as there is both something tailored and classic and showstopping in each piece the end result being elegant beyond belief.

I will forever be amazed at what these designers were able to create, especially being in lockdown. Truly, I believe each and every designer involved in LFW was able to create something beautiful. I wish I could have experienced it all in-person, but I enjoyed sitting in my own virtual front row.
