Let's Go G.N.O!: The Beauty Bar

*cue "Good as Hell" by Lizzo

If you've been reading my blog or, at least, know me well, you know that I might be the most girly person on the planet. This is why I plan the best G.N.O's (Girls Night Out). After months of living in the city, I decided it was time for a Girl's Night, and as the first true Girl's Night I was planning here, I decided it had to be amazing.

Given that I've only lived in NYC now for three months, I still do not know the best bars to go to, so I turned to my friend Google to find the best bar for our night out. On my search. I came across Beauty Bar. The name alone seemed perfect for what I was planning, but once I looked more into it, it got even better. The bar is a retro-salon themed bar, so there's old hair dryers, glitter on the walls, and overall, a chic, vintage vibe. What I found most intriguing was the fact that they also give manicures. I knew this would be the perfect place for the ultimate G.N.O.

When that Friday rolled around, I threw on my faux fur coat, and was ready to go. My roommate and I, in our typical broke fashion, took the train down to the East Village, and met up with my friend from Fashion Week. Upon our arrival, we headed straight to the manicurist table to figure out how to get our manicures. We were told that manicures come with the purchase of a drink, and to head over to the bar. At the bar I noticed "Martinis and Manicures" was listed on the menu. For just ten dollars you can get any house drink listed, wine, or prosecco, and get a free manicure with your purchase. We obviously all opted for this choice. I chose to order a cosmopolitan because I take every chance I get to feel like Carrie Bradshaw. When our drinks were ready, they came with a ticket that had a number on it. When it was your turn for a manicure, your number would pop-up on the screen, and you would go sit down in front of the open manicurist. When it was my turn, I knew I wanted a neutral manicure with fall colors, so I opted for a nice grey color. Since, it had been awhile since my last manicure, I also had a deep purple color painted on both my ring fingers for a fun party nail. Now, for anyone who loves to get gel, powder or acrylic nails, know that those are not an option here (the manicure is only ten dollars after all). Still, they do a great job, and all of our nails looked stunning afterwards.

The finished product!

After our manicures, we sat down and chatted in salon chairs, and being #extra, had a full photoshoot for Instagram. After an hour or so of girl talk, we found out that the backroom would soon be opening up. Every night at 11pm, the backroom opens to a dance floor with a deejay and another bar. We decided to go dance, and it was really fun. The deejay played all 80's hits, and everyone sang and danced along. After dancing our hearts, out we decided to see where else the night could take us.

Turning our Night into a Bar Crawl

As one should for any G.N.O, we decided to be a bit spontaneous and explore a couple of other bars in the area. The first being Crocodile Lounge. This dive bar is truly amazing because with the purchase of one drink (which are really cheap btw) you get a free mini cheese pizza. At this point we were starving, so the pizza tasted almost heavenly. The bar also has a photo booth and skee ball. I, of course, decided I had to play skee ball, but truthfully, did not play my best. After that, we decided to hit up one more bar, which, is what led us to Please Don't Tell.

Please Don't Tell is a speakeasy bar which is what made it so cool. We walked up to Crift Dogs, a cute, little hot dog joint. Inside there is a phone booth. When you step inside the phone booth and dial one it opens to a nice bar. This bar had a very different vibe from the rest of our night. It was swanky and had an expensive cocktail menu, along with gourmet hot dogs. When we realized how expensive it was, we all decided to get sodas, but at least enjoyed the experience. Soon, we decided to call it a night.

Overall, I enjoyed my first G.N.O in the Big Apple and cannot wait for many more to come. For a fun, girly night a highly recommend Beauty Bar, but I also recommend seeing where the night takes you because that can often lead to the best discoveries and the most fun!

XOXO,

Kristin
