It's Another Cinderella Story

Who needs a fairy godmother when you have great fashion sense?

If you were to ask me who my style icons are, I would tell you Audrey Hepburn and Blake Lively, but this was not always the case. My original style icon was, of course, Cinderella. Her stunning blue ballgown was the inspiration for both of my prom dresses. I even had sequin pumps to give the look of her iconic glass slippers. Truly the only thing I was missing was the pumpkin carriage and the cute little black choker. Some would say I loved her. Others would say I was fully obsessed. (It's totally the latter.) But hey, I'm not the only one. We've seen several celebrities model their red carpet looks after her, including Zendaya at the Met Ball and Blake Lively at the Cannes Film Festival. Just recently, for the film's 70th anniversary, Disney teamed up with several designers to create exclusive lines to celebrate this milestone. Seeing the inspiration Cinderella had on these amazing creative minds made me want to do the same, so I decided to let Cinderella be my style iconic yet again and create a wardrobe that a fairy godmother would be proud of.

Cinderella's Beauty Look

We all know Cinderella would opt for a simple yet glam look!

While Cinderella is known for being a natural beauty, I don't think she would shy away from a little glam. Especially for the ball, so I decided to take a natural makeup look, but add a touch more glitter.

  • I stared by applying House of Lashes Noir Fairy Lite faux lashes to each eye (and, yes, the choice in these lashes has everything to do with the Fairy Godmother)

  • From there, I filled in my eye brows using my favorite brow pencil.

  • Then, using It's a Princess Thing Eyeshadow Palette from Colourpop's Disney Designer Collection I started my eye look.

  • I used Chip, a pale neutral tone, as a base shade

  • Then applied Triton, a brown shade, to my crease

  • For my lid I used Ray, a glittery, champagne shade

  • Then I highlighted my brow bone using Prince Charming (I know, fitting), a sparkly, white shade.

  • To finish off my eyes, I used a shimmery dark blue liner to line my lower lash line.

  • I then applied foundation and concealer. (Doing this after the eyes is actually such a game changer.)

  • From there I used blush to contour under my cheekbones.

  • Then highlighted my cheekbones, my nose, my chin, and above the brows.

  • I finished my look by applying a neutral pink lipstick, and a shimmering gloss on top.

For my hair, I stuck with Cinderella's chic top knot, but left some curls out in front. I'm sure if I had my own fairy godmother, I could have pulled off this look even better, but I was pretty proud of it. Plus, I'm sure she would approve.

The Accessories

While this list doesn't include her iconic choker, I choose accessories I feel like she would wear in present day. This included lots of pearls and a hint of sparkle.

- A pearl headband

- A pearl clutch

- Blue and clear rhinestone studs

- A carriage necklace

- Glass Slippers obviously. By this I mean a stunning pair of Gianni Binni silver heels.

An Upscale Take on her Maid Outfit

This outfit says, "I'm not cleaning that."

While Cinderella's maid outfit wasn't exactly fashionable, I loved the color scheme. The light brown and baby blue make an amazing combination. Being that this outfit is based off her work uniform, I took a girly yet business casual approach with a blue puff sleeve top and high-waisted, pleated slacks. The only thing is you will never catch me cleaning a single thing in this outfit.

A Dressed Down Take on her Original Ballgown

Luckily I have no step-sisters to destroy this 'fit!

When I was younger, my favorite outfit from the whole movie was when she wore her mother's old, pink dress that her animal friends made more upscale for the ball. I was completely devastated when her stepsisters ripped it to shreds. I thought it would be fun to imagine that dress a bit more dressed down for a casual brunch or shopping with friends. I went with a pink, asymmetrical bodysuit, ripped jeans, and a pink belt with pearl detailing. The great thing is the jeans are already distressed, so there is no destroying this 'fit!

If She Went to the Ball with a Chic Jumpsuit

Simply showing Prince Charming who's boss.

In present day, I imagine Cinderella attending an upscale NYC party as opposed to a ball. I which case, she would look totally stunning in this navy blue, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit with a sweetheart neckline. Just like in the movie, she would capture everyone's attention from the moment she enters the room, but at the same time show them she's a total boss.

How She Would Win Prince Charming's Heart

Cause we all know she would have options for the ball in 2021.

Let's face it, in present day, we all have multiple options when it comes to dressing for any event (at least, I do) so, it would be the same for Cinderella and the ball. In what is basically just a shorter version of her iconic ballgown you can't help but feel confident. It's still a beautiful light blue dress with feminine details, but the length allows you to show off your legs and your glass slippers. With the confidence that she would have in this dress, Cinderella would totally steal Prince Charming's heart, and there's no way he would be able to forget her face this time.

I don't think that is anything that can make you feel more feminine, fashionable, and #extra as dressing like a Disney Princess. To me, Cinderella was the ultimate style icon and the ultimate dreamer. Anytime I watch her fairytale, I'm reminded to dream big and go after what I believe in. Who knows? Maybe soon, I'll watch my own fashion fairytale play out. Maybe it will be producing a princess themed fashion show or even making a Cinderella line of some kind. The amazing thing is that when the clock strikes midnight instead of running away, I get to see what happens next. In the meantime, I'll keep dreaming and wearing my stunning silver heels.

XOXO,

Kristin
