One of the things I miss the most from pre-Covid times was getting dressed up and hitting the town with my girls. While it seems we are finally on the up on this pandemic, I don't see any G.N.O's happening anytime soon. However, there's no reason that we can't get glammed up and have a Girl's Night from the comfort on your own home, so I present a new blog series, G.N.I (Girls Night In!)
Of course, my suggestion for a Girl's Night In is never going to be as simple as a movie and popcorn. As per usual, I have taken it to an #extra level. My suggestion is a full on Glam Movie Marathon. This includes getting dressed up in your cutest pajamas with a matching sleep mask, movies to make you feel your most fashionable and fabulous, and a makeup look inspired by the movies.
Below, I've listed the movies in my line-up, a makeup product inspired by the movies, and a fashion tip from each movie. I also have a makeup look using each of the products.
Funny Face
In my opinion, every movie marathon should start with a classic, even a glam one. While any Audrey Hepburn film could fit that criteria, I think Funny Face is the perfect one to set the tone for the night! This fun musical follows a serious intellectual Jo Stockton (Audrey Hepburn) as her beauty is discovered by fashion photographer Dick Avery (Fred Astaire). With an opening number called "Think Pink", a glamourous photoshoot montage set in Paris, and Audrey's custom Givenchy ball gowns, this movie is a fashion lover's dream.
Makeup Product: NARS, The Original Lipstick in Funny Face. This product was named after the movie, and is just as cute and pink as their opening number.
Fashion Tip: One can never own too many ball gowns. (I'm serious.) Dress up and celebrate your life!
The Devil Wears Prada
There is no fashion movie more iconic than the Devil Wears Prada. You truly get it all! A behind the scenes look at the running of a prestigious fashion magazine, Meryl Streep as a ruthless and talented editor in chief, and another Anne Hathaway makeover moment. This movie is filled with stunning fashion and A+ one-liners, and questions what we are willing to sacrifice for success.
Makeup Product: Dior, Diorshow Mascara and Dior, Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner. There is a scene in this movie where Andy applies mascara while in deep reflection on how her job has changed her. I knew from that I had to pair this movie with mascara, and, of course, it had to be designer. Dior was simply a perfect fit! (The eyeliner was just a bonus, because who wants mascara without a little liner?)
Fashion Tip: Fashion is wearable art. Use it to express yourself. Also there is a good chance that the blue your wearing isn't just blue it's "cerulean"
Sex and the City: The Movie
Some might argue that this is not a fashion movie, but with an opening line of "Year after year, twenty-something women come to New York in search of the two "L"s: Labels & Love," a montage of Carrie's best outfits, a glamourous photoshoot with Vogue, and a scene at New York Fashion Week, I would say they're incorrect. In addition to the to this movie's amazing fashion moments, it also has great heart. It's one of those rare gems that will make you laugh and cry as it follows a year in the life of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha.
Makeup Product: Maybelline Nudes of New York Eye Shadow Palette. For Carrie and the other girls, living in NYC in basically a personality trait, so it's only fitting that I paired it with a makeup palette inspired by New York women. (No pun intended the word nudes.)
Fashion Tip: Tulle skirts will never go out of style.
Savage X Fenty Show
Okay. This is not a movie but is the perfect finale to this Glam Movie Marathon. This is one of my favorite fashion shows of all time. The Parris Goebel choreography is amazing, the live performances are beyond entertaining, and Rihanna truly celebrates every shape and size. I also love that the beginning of this special goes behind the scenes on what it took to produce this incredible show. For a real grand finale, I recommend watching the second one as well!
Makeup Product: FENTY BEAUTY by Rihanna, Diamond Bond All Over Diamond Veil in Rosé Rave. As if, I wasn't going to pair this show with a FENTY product! This highlighter is seriously stunning, and makes you feel so glamourous.
Fashion Tip: You are sexy regardless of what shape or size your are! Wear what makes you feel best and own it!
Let's Get Glam!
So using all the makeup products paired with the movies above, I created a glam, pink makeup look.
I set my base with primer, foundation and concealer.
I used and eyebrow pencil to fill in their natural shape
I used the Diorshow On Stage Liquid Eyeliner to line my top lash line and give a slight wing (mostly because my cat-eye skills are currently C+ at best).
I applied the shade Soloist from the Nudes of New York Eye Shadow Palette from lid to brow, as a base layer for my eyeshadow.
I applied the shade Explorer to my crease.
I added the shade Dreamer to my lid.
I highlighted my brow bone and inner corner with the shade Originator.
I finished off my eye look by applying Diorshow Mascara to my lashes.
Next, I highlighted my cheekbones, nose, and chin with Diamond Bond All Over Diamond Veil.
I finished off my glam look by applying the bright pink lipstick shade Funny Face to my lips.
There you have my first G.N.I suggestion, and you can celebrate however you like. You can use this idea for a small get together with your girls for Galentine's or have a self-care day and treat yourself. Recently, some of my friends and I had a virtual movie night through Teleparty and Zoom, so I highly suggest using those platforms if your friends are out of state.
Regardless of how you choose to have your Glam Movie Marathon, take some time to get glammed up and enjoy yourself! You deserve it!
XOXO,
Kristin
