Princess Aurora is an icon for a number of reasons. First, she stole Prince Philip's heart the first time they met. Second, she understands the importance of beauty sleep. Lastly, she can pull of pink and blue both equally and effortlessly. Though she doesn't have many outfits throughout the movie, the few she has look absolutely stunning and I couldn't wait to put a modern twist on them.
Aurora's Beauty Look
For Princess Aurora's makeup I wanted to make it as pink and as glamourous as possible.
I started by applying Too Faced Better Than Sex Faux Mink Falsie Lashes in Natural Flirt.
Next, I filled in my brows.
Then, using Colourpop's It's a Princess Thin Eye Shadow Palette I applied Chip, a pale neutral, as a base shade.
Next, I applied Enchanted Rose, a metallic rose gold shade, to my crease.
After that, I applied Fairy Godmother, a sparkling pink shade, to my lid.
I finished my eye look my highlighting underneath my brows and my inner corners using Prince Charming, a sparking white color.
After finishing my eyes, I applied foundation and concealer.
I then used blush to contour underneath my cheekbones.
I used a light, sparking pink highlighter to add a glow to my cheekbones, nose, and chin.
I finished the look by applying a pink lipstick and a pink gloss over it.
Aurora is known for her long blonde waves and bangs when it comes to her hairstyle. Since I don't have bangs, I decided to wear my hair down and wavy with a middle part. Though it wasn't quite the same, I truly felt like I was embodying my inner princess with my look.
The Accessories
As much as I wanted to look glamourous, I also wanted to keep the focus on the clothing itself, so I didn't use to many accessories with my Sleeping Beauty looks. In fact, I kept it pretty simple with a;
Gold crown necklace
Black pumps with rhinestone detailing
A pink, Holly Golightly inspired sleep mask
What Briar Rose Would Wear meeting Prince Phillip
In case you needed a reminder, Aurora won Prince Phillip's heart when she was under her alias as Briar Rose, a simple peasant girl. I tried to channel that energy while keeping the outfit fun and flirty. I chose a tan off the shoulder corset with cute ribbon detailing, and high-waisted, black jeans. Personally, I would wear this outfit on a first date, but given my current dating pool, I doubt my outcome would be the same.
Make it Pink!
One of the most entertaining scenes in the movie is when the fairies are arguing over the color of Aurora's 16th birthday dress. Personally, I feel that pink was the obvious choice, but Merriweather would beg to differ. As a fashion lover, I love a sleek blazer set and I imagine that Aurora would too. I opted for a cropped hot pink one with matching shorts because I feel like it matches the flirtier energy of Aurora's dress.
Make It Blue!
Technically speaking, this blazer set should have been identical to the pink one. However, I loved how the off-the-shoulder collar looks similar to neckline of the dress from the movie. Because it is still a blazer, set it looks chic, but the off-the-shoulder detail makes it more feminine and playful. When putting this on I felt absolutely fabulous and ready to find true love's kiss. However, Flora would never let Merriweather win in the end.
Make It Pink (Pajamas)!
If you thought I could make a Sleeping Beauty post and not include pajamas, you were very wrong. A modern-day Aurora would not fall into such a long sleep in a ballgown like she does in the movie, but instead opt for cute and cozy pajamas. Of course, I went with pink ones because we all know that is the color that won out in the end (or, at least, the color Disney chose for her marketing).
I have to say, it was fun to play around with Princess Aurora's signature looks. I loved dressing up with the pink and blue looks in my wardrobe, and picking out clothes that made me feel flirty and confident. If there is anything I learned from her fairytale, well, other than don't be petty when you're not invited to a party, it's to follow your heart. Also it is important to get your beauty sleep, so if you need me, that's exactly what I'll be doing.
XOXO,
Kristin
