Born This Way (For the Most Part)

Just Me, Myself, and a Bit of Makeup

You know those girls that get mad when someone tells them that they should wear less makeup because they actually enjoy putting it on every day. I'm definitely one of those girls, but I still prefer my makeup to look somewhat natural. After all, you can never go wrong with neutral shades and a hint of gloss (although I still love a bold red lip)! While it might seem less exiting, there's always ways to play around with a natural look which is why when Too Faced added an eye shadow palette and highlighter to their Born This Way collection, I just had to have it.

A flat lay? In a Beauty Blog? I'm shook!

Now, if you've been following my Beauty blogs at all, you might notice a pattern. I use a lot of Too Faced makeup. This is for a few reasons. One is that I'm a sucker for cute packaging, and no makeup brand does that better than Too Faced. Another being that they seem to drop products just when I need them. I'd been wanting a new neutral eye shadow palette for a while and had just run out of highlighter when their newest additions to the Born This Way Collection dropped. What I love about the Born This Way Collection is that it was designed to actually enhance your natural beauty. The foundation (which I've used in the past and loved) includes ingredients that help to improve and take care of your skin. Their new products were designed with the same idea in mind. The Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette was created with 16 new shades, both matte and metallic, that were created to compliment any skin tone and create a radiance. The Turn Up The Light highlighter gives your skin a natural glow. Both products are infused with coconut water, alpine rose, and hyaluronic acid to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Another reason I love Too Faced, is that most products come with a Glamour Guide that includes step-by-step instructions, which brings me to the actual point of this post.

How stunning is this makeup though?

Since I am still #BoredInTheHouse, I thought it would be fun to follow one of the tutorials that came in my Glamour Guide. Since the looks in the guide were created with different skin tones in mind, it made it easy to choose which look to try. I obviously chose the look that they featured on the pale, blonde girl, Rose Petal.

Rose Petal

"Cause Baby You Were Borm This Way!" (Wink. Wink)

For this look, I took the necessary first steps, primer, foundation, and concealer. For primer I used Primed and Poreless by, you guessed it, Too Faced (fun fact: when you order directly off their website you get a few free samples when your little pink box arrives.) For foundation I used my go-to, Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Fair 01, and for concealer I used Elf Camo Concealer in Fair Beige. I would never do an eyeshadow tutorial without first doing my eyebrows, so I used Maybelline Total Temptation Brow Definer in Blonde. This eyebrow pencil truly has the best natural blonde shade out of every pencil that I have tried, so it was an absolute must for this tutorial. I also like to put on eyeliner before eyeshadow (beauty gurus everywhere are quaking), so I used Better Than Sex Eyeliner by Too Faced. Finally, I could start the actual tutorial.

The first step on my glamour guide said to highlight my brow bone with the shade Petal. Without a thought, I swiped it across my brow bone and was shocked when I noticed how dark it was. As someone who's skin is actually whiter than snow, I usually only put white or pale pink shades on my brow bone, but I decided to put my trust in my guide, and moved on to the next step. I then put the shade Warm Rose into my crease and lower lash line, and soon followed by applying Sparkling Rum onto my lid. Lastly, my guide said to highlight my inner corner with Rose Gold. Being that Rose Gold is my favorite metal, this was my favorite part. I finished the look with, of course, Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara. As I looked up closely, I was a bit intimidated by the look. It seemed very loud for natural makeup look, but as I stepped back, I realized it was a fun twist on a natural look, and I was excited to finish up with highlighter.

My favorite thing about the Turn Up the Light highlighter, which I use in light, is there are three different shades, for to decide how much you want to glow. I started by applying soft focus along my cheekbones, and on my nose. The point of this shade is to add a gentle blur to large areas of the skin for a subtle brightening effect. As someone who loves to shine, literally and figuratively, this was not bright enough for me, so I added Glow onto the higher planes of my face. This meant my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, and the top of the chin. At this point, everyone reading this is well aware of how #extra I can be, so I know no one is shocked when this still was not enough glitter for my liking. I added the third shade, Dazzle to my cheekbones, so they would really shine. I finished off my "woke up like this look" with a little lipstick, so I used Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Audition. This shade is great natural-looking color with a glossy finish, so it was the perfect shade to complete the look.

Natural, but make it Extra

Yes, I am one of those girls who wears makeup all the time, but it's not because I feel like I must have it in order to be beautiful. While I do use it to enhance my beauty, I also find it fun to play around with. I love to experiment with different makeup looks and tutorials like this one make it easy to do so. It allows me to show off my girly, fashionable, makeup obsessed personality. When I apply makeup, I don't think of hiding my beauty and I do think I was "born this way" because with a simple swipe of eyeshadow and a little hint of highlighter, I'm showing off my personality, how I'm feeling, and who I am inside.

XOXO,

Kristin
