A Night at Studio 54

Updated: Jun 22, 2020

Sequin bell bottoms for the win!

In the 70's, Studio 54 was a raving nightclub known for its amazing sets, celebrity guest list, and, of course, its glamourous atmosphere. With a long celebrity guest list, truly anybody who was anybody was spotted at this New York nightclub. In the 80's the club closed its doors, but on December 7th, 2019, a select few got to relive the glamour of Studio 54, and I was lucky to be one of them.

As an intern for Mao PR, I wasn't so much as invited, as I was forced to attend. In fact, I spent the first few hours checking in guests. From influencers, designers, socialites, and literal billionaires, the guest list was one that would make the original Studio 54 proud. They were all arriving in dapper suits and stunning sequin attire. I, myself, was told to be in my most glamourous all black, so I wore sequin bell bottoms, a black halter top, and a faux fur jacket. My makeup included a classic red lip and gold glittery eyes to match the theme. As we continued to check in the guests, I was anxious to get upstairs. Finally, we were told to go enjoy the party, and I can say we really did.

What better place to revive Studio 54 than at the top of the tallest building in the Western hemisphere, One World Trade? Our elevator ride to the top floor included a circular view of New York's history for the last five hundred years, which was perfect for a party set in the past. Also, this was a great distraction for going up over a hundred floors at a quick speed.

Once we walked into to the party, I was truly amazed by the atmosphere. There were beautiful gold floors, amazing lounge areas, the best photo spots I've ever seen, and a deejay blasting the best hits of the disco era. I would have expected nothing less from Mao PR. Something I learned very early on in my internship is that they throw the best parties. Being #extra, myself and the other interns spent our first five minutes having a full-on photo shoot by the silver disco ball wall. (You really weren't there if you didn't post it on Instagram.) Once we finally finished, we made our way to the dance floor.

Shortly after we made our way over, Haleh and Golnar Abivardi, made their welcome speech. The party was thrown as their welcome to New York and as the launch of their upcoming beauty line. They finished their speech by welcoming Boy George to the stage. He had a mini concert singing his greatest hits including, Karma Chameleon. After the concert, we socialized with the elite crowd, but before we knew it the party was ending.

I have truly never been more wowed by an event, and hands down this will be a part of my favorite New York memories. I mean how many people can say they partied at the top of the tallest building in New York City? The night may or may not have ended with me getting into the exclusive Tao Nightclub, but a girl never flirts with a billionaire and tells!

XOXO,

Kristin
