A Milan Capsule Wardrobe

In my mind, I'm front row at the Versace Fashion Show.

My dream Milan Fashion Week trip was almost a reality, but then, you know, Covid happened. However, I know one day I'll be there enjoying high-end Italian fashion and all the pasta a girl can eat, but in the meantime, I can at least plan my wardrobe.

For my Milan Capsule Wardrobe I wanted to channel my favorite Italian Spring/ Summer '21 collection which was Versace. As another little girl who wanted to be a mermaid for a period of time, I loved the mermaid theme to the collection. Plus the colors were bold bright and sparkling. To pay homage to this collection (cause even in a fictional world, it's out of my price range), I choose beachy pieces with a pink, green, orange, white, and gold color scheme.

Green Tie Front Cardigan

Milan or not... this cardigan is a need!

In Versace's show and otherwise, tie-front cardigans are having a moment. This lime green one is bright, fun, and perfect for strutting down the streets of Milan.

Multicolored Pattern Skirt

Floral, flirty, and fun!

I have to say, I was struggling to make such a colorful capsule wardrobe, until I found this skirt. It pairs perfectly with every top in this collection, and it's bright and flirty.

White Corset

Ariel could never.

This white corset totally gives off mernaid vibes without being over the top. This means it will easily pair with any bottom, but the mesh details mean all eyes would be on you.

Orange Crop Top

Orange has never looked so chic!

This top combined with the matching pants below is exactly what I can imagine wearing taking an IG pic in front of the Duomo di Milano. The orange color makes it both bold and chic. though it's a part of the set it can be worn with any of the other bottoms in this capsule.

Orange Pants

Wait, now orange has never looked so chic.

Elle Woods said, "Whoever said orange is the new pink is seriously disturbed," but after seeing these pants, I think whoever said that was on to something. These are sleek, and perfect for being the center of attention throughout Milan.

Pink Puff Sleeve Blazer Top

Once again, I'm obsessed.

By now you've probably figured out that there is nothing quiet and practical about this fictional wardrobe. In fact, a shiny, pink, puff sleeve blazer top is another bold staple that is perfect for this capsule.

Pink Bodysuit

Okay... this one is somewhat practical.

Back at it again with the mermaid vibes. This bodysuit gives and elegant shape, all while staying true to the playful flirtiness of this capsule. Plus, it's almost practical, and will go with anything.

Embellished Jeans

Blue jeans have never looked so fun!

Now that I'm on my third capsule, I've come to the conclusion that every one needs at least one pair of jeans. Of course, I couldn't pick a pair of any basic blue jeans. These have fun fringe embellishments to work well with overall boldness of this wardrobe.

Gold Sequin Blazer

I swear to you that this gold sequin blazer is a play on the gold sequins used throughout the Versace collection, and not just an excuse to channel Serena van der Woodsen (this is a plus though). It also is a fun statement piece to add on to any of the outfits.

Mermaid Dress

Wait... Now, Ariel could never.

At this point, you know it's time for the real showstopping piece which is, of course, a mermaid dress. Seriously, I can imagine myself channeling my inner mermaid(for way less then half the Versace price) all throughout the city.

Multicolored Block Heels

Seriously, how cute are these?

If there is a single fashion item that Italy is known for, it would be shoes. This means, when taking a trip there you have to step up your shoe game. Not only do these shoes pair perfectly with most of the outfits, but they can be a statement piece all on their own.

Gold Heels

Another item I had to resist the urge to buy.

Doesn't every trip to Milan need sparkling gold heels? I think so, and when I finally get my chance to go, I hope to be wearing these!

White Sneakers with Gold Detailing

Even the sneakers needed to be just a bit loud.

Milan, another fashion capital, is also a city where there is a lot of walking around, so, once again, I had to include a comfortable sneaker. However, I refused for them to be plain, so I picked these gold stripped pair from Adidas.

Gold Seashell Clutch

Loving another golden mermaid moment!

I imagine that a modern day mermaid would carry a seashell clutch this extravagant looking, and it's the perfect clutch match to this beachy and bold collection.

Gold Ring Set

For the sake of this 20 piece capsule wardrobe, let's pretend this only counts as one ring.

I know, I found a loophole again with another set, but I wanted the jewelry to be as golden and bold as the other pieces, so one ring just wouldn't do.

Gold Coin Necklace

when I thought about jewelry, gold coin pieces just made sense. I could see any mermaid or fashion lover rocking this necklace all over Milan.

Chunky Gold Chain Necklace

Cause two necklaces are always better than one!

I love how chunky gold chains are having a moment especially in high fashion. This necklace would complement any of the outfits on its own, but also would look great layered with the coin necklace.

Chunky Gold Chain Bracelet with Coin Pendant

Another bold gold jewelry piece for the win!

I mean, it would be hard to find a better match for the other jewelry pieces I've selected. Seriously, it's simply perfect.

Gold Statement Earrings

These basically scream Italian vacation!

These are, you guessed it, a bold take on hoop earring. They give that same circular shape in a way that's fashionable and flirty!

Oversized Sunglasses

Blacking out the haters! JK.

Oversized sunglasses are the perfect final accessory for this colorful, loud, and playful capsule. These instantly would make any of the outfits more chic, and give off main character in an Italian rom-com energy. Sadly, since this is fictional, the Vespa and hot Italian love interest are not included.

Making this capsule wardrobe pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone, but allowed me to play around with more high fashion and colorful pieces. I know one day I'll travel throughout Italy, watching fashion shows, eating pasta, and hopefully taking a Vespa ride or two, and when I do, I'll look fashionable and fierce!

XOXO,

Kristin
