A Los Angeles Capsule Wardrobe

I was going to take a new photo for this, but then I decided to use this entire blog post as an excuse to post it again.

Last but not least on my capsule wardrobe tour is none other than the city of movie stars, rock stars and previous bachelor contestants, Los Angeles. I've been fortunate enough to travel there various times in my childhood, but can't wait to go back! There's great shopping, fabulous food, and always a chance to run into a celebrity.

For the clothing capsule I could have gone in several different directions. At first, I thought I would create a Boho wardrobe. Then I thought I would go for that Y2K vintage trend that many LA influencers are wearing, but then it hit me. I wanted to go for a more grunge look. LA is known for its Rockstars, so I felt like it was the perfect fit. I picked a total of twenty pieces that would capture the perfect grunge girl aesthetic.

Oversized Band Tee

This shirt is the inspiration for this entire capsule.

I love an oversized vintage band tee, and I thought this Rolling Stones one was perfect for this capsule wardrobe. After choosing this tee, I decided that the rest of the colors in this wardrobe would be red, light blue, and black.

Biker Shorts

Considering we're in the land of the Kardashians, biker shorts are a must!

Biker shorts are currently an LA staple I can get behind. (At first I couldn't, but that's irrelevant now.) They give you that LA cool girl ease, and look great with tees or a blazer!

Black Sports Bra

Cause matching athleisure sets in LA are just necessary.

One thing that LA is known for is its various hiking trails. I'm not normally into hiking, but I would go to get close to the Hollywood sign, and, well, for the IG pic. Matching athleisure sets are almost required for this, but because I'm creating a capsule wardrobe, I wanted to pick a sports bra that could also double as a cute crop top.

Oversized Black Blazer

Shocker! Another Blazer!

LA girls like Hailey Baldwin know that throwing a blazer on anything even biker shorts or sweatpants instantly makes you look cooler and more chic, so an oversized black one was just necessary.

Red Flannel

A true grunge staple.

I almost feel like you cannot have a grunge wardrobe without a red flannel, so here it is.

Light Blue Tie Dye Crop Top

So this one is a little less grunge, but a little more LA.

I love this blue, strappy, tie dye crop top. I would totally wear to a brunch by the beach, and maybe then go shopping on Melrose Ave.

Light Wash Distressed Jeans

I always love a cute pair of light wash distressed jeans

To me, these jeans just scream grunge. I love the relaxed fit and the distressing, and think they would complement all the pieces in this wardrobe.

Black Leather Shorts

Honestly, black leather shorts should be a staple in any wardrobe.

That famous Marilyn Monroe quote should actually say, "give a girl a pair of black leather shorts, and she can conquer the world," because that's how I feel anytime I wear them. Especially if paired with combat boots and tights.

Red Bodysuit

Because strappy tops like this are having a moment.

This bodysuit is what I can imagine wearing on The Walk of Fame because I love the color and the cutout and straps totally fit in with LA influencers.

Black Dress

I would put this on in the hopes of meeting my celebrity crush.

If I ever have the opportunity to meet ant of my celebrity crushes, I hope to be in this dress! It's perfect for any night out in LA because its both sleek and trendy. Plus, it would definitely capture attention as you walk into any room.

Light Blue Mules

So simple yet so cute!

Mules are very trendy at the moment, and I can totally see why. The give off effortless cool girl vibes by being simple and fashion forward at the same time. A light blue pair is perfect for this wardrobe, and would be best paired with the dressier pieces.

Heeled Combat Boots

No shoe will ever make you feel edgier than this pair.

For a grunge wardrobe, I had to include combat boots, but because I'm #extra they had to be heels!

Platform Sneakers

Cause for this wardrobe even a simple sneaker needs to be a bit edgier.

Considering this is my last capsule wardrobe, y'all probably knew I would be including sneakers. I went for platform ones because they're currently trending, but they also add a bit more of a fashionable edge.

Black Belt

I definitely owned a belt like this in elementary school.

You can't look at this belt and tell me that it doesn't pair perfectly with the rest of this wardrobe. I would rock it with most of these pieces all over LA.

Plaid Tights

Because a simple pair of black tights just wouldn't do.

When creating this wardrobe, I knew tights would be a must! I like these plaid ones because they make these looks more exciting, but wouldn't take away from any of the outfits.

Silver Chain Necklace

After four capsules full of gold jewelry, I thought it was time for silver to have its moment.

I almost went with a classic black choker, but decided a silver chain necklace would ultimately look better with all of the outfits.

Silver Hoops

Cause all the LA it-girls are wearing hoops.

So all the earring pieces I picked are to create a curated ear. I went with silver hoops as the first pair of earrings because they're sleek and on-trend.

Another Pair of Silver Hoops

Because wearing two pairs of hoops at the same time is totally in rn.

The second pair of earring in this curated ear would be another pair of hoops. I love the look of wearing two pairs of hoops at once because it's so chic. It would be perfect for any night out in LA.

Silver Ear Cuff

Because cartilage piercing just aren't for everyone.

I used to rock a few cartilage piercings, but after an unfortunate incident I don't anymore. Ear cuffs are the perfect way to add that same edge without having to have a piercing.

Circle Sunglasses

Just a Rockstar staple.

I feel like sunglasses in LA are simply a necessity. Because this entire wardrobe has a rocker edge, I decided to go with a Rockstar staple, which is, of course, circle sunglasses. When putting these on and riding down Sunset Blvd you can channel your inner celebrity.

Creating this capsule wardrobe was fun because I got to channel a bolder, edgier part of my personality. I believe I was able to successfully combine LA cool girl with grunge to create a wardrobe that's perfect for the city of angels. Hopefully, I'll be visiting there one day soon!

XOXO,

Kristin
